This week we read The Jacket I Wear in the Snow, by Shirley Neitzel. This is a cute cumulative rhyming story about a little boy who first puts on all of his snow gear and then has to take it off. Emily especially likes the rebus pictures that help her help me tell the story. This books was perfect since we spent the day snowed in after we got another 8 inches of snow over night. Instead of putting on all of our snow gear to go outside where it was way to cold for us, we made some snowmen out of shaving cream and glue.
First I mixed an equal amount of shaving cream and white glue together to form the base of the snowman. This is the same puffy paint mixture that we used for our Puffy Paint Ghosts.
I gave Emily all different supplies to decorate her snowman with. Foam hats and noses, beans, buttons, fabric and wiggly eyes.
Can you tell that she was enjoying this project?!?!

Emily’s finished Snowmen. The big one with the blue buttons is Daddy and the little one with the pink and green buttons is Emily.
There was plenty of Puffy Paint left and it looked like so much fun that I made my own Snowmen! First I made the big one which Emily decided was me so then I had to make a little one for Juliette who was actually taking a nap during this project.
Looks like being snowed in and playing with shaving cream as a book connected art experience are in season. We did, too.

ReplyDeleteI still haven't tried this kind of puffy paint. We made salt paint snowmen this week, and we got quite a bit of snow too. Emily looks so happy creating her snowman!!!
