Field Trip Fun!!!

IMG_4336I have wanted to take Emily to the Crayola Factory, in Easton Pennsylvania since she was born, but knew that I would have to wait for her to be older to actually enjoy it.  We finally got to go at the beginning of the month and it was so much fun.  We went with our friends who also have two little girls that are the same ages as Emily and Juliette which made the trip even better!

Once we got into the museum there were different stations set up where the girls were able to be creative with the different Crayola products.

IMG_4337

Emily got to use construction paper crayons (which were really neat) to make a sun picture.  There were lots of examples of other children's projects hung up all around and both girls seemed to enjoy working on their own creations.

IMG_4340

Using window markers to draw on the glass was one of my favorite sections.

  IMG_4342

Juliette seemed to enjoy it a lot too :0)IMG_4346

We watched a show about how crayons are made and all the kids were given a red crayon fresh from the line.

IMG_4350

Everyone was able to use sidewalk chalk to draw on the “sidewalk.”

IMG_4355        Juliette even joined in scribbling on the floor!!

These are just a few of the fun things that we did while at the Crayola Factory.  There was also a section where we made an undersea painting and then put them through a special drying machine.  The girls had fun working with their own piece of model magic too!

Emily has really been enjoying just coloring on a plain piece of white paper with all of her different colored markers.  We have read Art, by Partick McDonnell many times before, however the other day when I saw it at the library I knew that this was the perfect book for this week’s stART project.  In this book a little boy named Art creates all different kinds of art.  It is a fun book to read and I love how it shows all of the different ways that you can create “Art” finally all of the lines, squiggles and dots turn into a recognizable picture.  At the end of the book all of the little boys creations are hung on the refrigerator because “Mother loves ART!”  I feel like this book is written for our family except instead of the refrigerator we hang all of our art with fun tack on a door in our kitchen :0)

Emily hard at work on her art:

This week we read A House for Hermit Crab, by Eric Carle.  I remember reading this story with the first graders as we prepared them for the new adventures that second grade would bring.  Emily enjoyed seeing all of the different see creatures that helped make the hermit crabs shell special.

After reading this book I knew Emily would love to to decorate her own hermit crab and shell so I gave her this template for the hermit crab and shell, markers, glue, sequins and tissue paper and let her go to work.  She knew exactly what she wanted to do and only wanted my help in opening the glue bottle!   IMG_4533IMG_4534 IMG_4535IMG_4536

After Emily finished decorating her hermit crab and shell I cut it out and glued it onto a piece of blue construction paper and sand paper.

Recently, Emily has requested that we read Little People, Cars, Trucks, Planes and Trains, by Readers Digest just about every night.  She loves looking at and finding things in the pictures and of course opening all of the flaps!

To go along with this book we did some “sculpture” with a set of Krinkles Blocks that were tucked away in the closet since Christmas.  Emily loved helping me build different vehicles with the pieces in this set.  I was so excited with how much she enjoyed creating with these blocks.  I started the base of the car for her and she added the rest IMG_4225 IMG_4226 IMG_4227

She was very proud of the  race car we built together!!

Wordless Wednesday ~ A Day at the Hospital

IMG_4213

We literally spent a good portion of the day (6 hours to be exact) at the hospital because we had to take Juliette for a MAG 3  Renal Scan.  She was diagnosed with a Megaureter and had to go for this test to see if she needs surgery to fix a blockage.  I have no words to describe how I felt listening to her cry and call  “Mommy, Mommy” while they put in an IV, a catheter and while we held her down for 40 minutes for the scan.  It felt so good to hold her and hug her once it was over.

Muffin Tin Monday

Emily was very excited to have her Muffin Tin Monday lunch today.  She decided that she wanted Peanut Butter and Jelly, I thought it would be fun to grill the sandwich and oh my goodness it was delicious.  Now I am just wondering why it has taken me this long to come up with this new and amazing way to eat PB & J!!!

This week to get ready to celebrate the 4th of July we have been reading Corduroy's Fourth of July, by Don Freeman.  This is a simple board book that both Emily and Juliette are able to enjoy.  The book is sturdy enough to stand up to Juliette tugging at the pages and the simple story lists some of the fun things that you do to celebrate the 4th of July.  Emily and I talked about the things that we saw in the pictures and how they were similar or different from the things that we are going to do.

Emily and I made a flag inspired wind sock to help decorate our house for the 4th of July.

 IMG_4130

Emily used the star piece to our shape sorting bucket to cover a piece of blue construction paper with star prints.

 IMG_4145

I didn’t have any streamers handy so I cut red and white tissue paper into thin strips.  Once the stars where dry I had Emily glue the tissue paper strips to the bottom of the paper.  She did a great job with the red and white pattern.  Once she covered the bottom in the tissue paper we rolled the blue paper and taped it together.

IMG_4148

I hole punched two holes in the sides at the top and used a shiny silver pipe cleaner to hang it.

I love this festive windsock and Emily had a great time making it!!
