Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too. All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures so that everyone can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.
I added a stART tab in my navigation bar to make it easier to search for past stART projects. Be sure to check it out!! All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.
This week our art project actually came first and as we were talking about the design we agreed that it looked like Elmer the Elephant. So of course we decided to read the book Elmer, by David McKee to go along with the project. This is a story about a very colorful and elephant. In this book Elmer becomes tired of being so different and wants to blend in, however he soon realizes that things are just not the same without him. I love the message of individuality that this book portrays.
I am going to Mexico, well actually I am in Mexico right now for my best friends wedding and Emily and Juliette are staying home with Daddy. I needed a backpack to bring with me so I thought it would be fun to have Emily help me decorate one.
First I covered the edges of the drawstring bag with tape
Next, I drew a squiggly design on the front of the bag.
Emily and I colored in all of the spaces with fabric markers.
Emily pealed away the tape and revealed our awesome work of art. I am so excited to have this bag with me while I am away from my little girl.
I will be on a tour of Chichen Itza as you are reading this…but I can’t wait to come home and check out all of your wonderful stART projects!!!
I love your idea to have Emily decorate your backpack! She did a great job too!
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Mexico!
I hope you are having a fantastical time in Mexico :) We of course, miss you already! I love how the backpack came out!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, we love Elmer too! It was only a matter of time until someone (i.e. you!) came up with a fabulous craft project linked to it! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Have a great trip!! x
This is a really cool art project. I can see this being done with all ages. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletePS may add this to "Man Made Get Crafty"? Home decorated bags count as man made... here is last month's Nature Get Crafty as a reference - http://redtedart.wordpress.com/2010/06/01/get-crafty-june-2010-inspired-by-nature/

WHAT A GREAT CRAFT! WE JUST GOT THIS SAME BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY LAST WEEK - CUTE!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! This turned out great!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Wish I could have seen it without the tape and on your back! Have a great trip. :)
ReplyDeleteYour backpack came out so cute. This would be cute for kids to make a book bag for library visits! Awesome idea! Hope you're having fun in Mexico!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project and a special item for you to think of your girl while you are gone. Hope you are having an amazing trip! Chichen Itza is really cool. We went on our honeymoon. Were you brave enough to climb to the top? I was fine going up but going down was a little more scary. :)
ReplyDeleteWe love Elmer too, and how fun it is that Emily helped you decorate this beautiful backpack. I hope you will have a lot of fun in Mexico.
ReplyDeleteElmer- such a fun elephant...
ReplyDeleteOh, and that bag- well, it could be sold in a department store!
This is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Mexico!
Great project - thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a colorful backpack to take on a trip. That should brighten your days while away.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at Chichin Itza.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea, it looks like so much fun!
I love the book. The backpack is wonderful. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special bag to take along on your trip. Hope you are having a fantastic time!
ReplyDeleteOoo, that design you made has special meaning to me. My mom used to draw it for me all of the time when I was little so I could color it in - while I was bored or if we were in a waiting room, etc. I even made a large canvas painting of it to hang in my house, in memory of that. How fun that you get to take that trip; the backpack turned out great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincedence, we did our stART project on Elmer as well! I remember that happened once before when we both did The Red Ripe Strawberry. Great minds think alike I guess! And I love love love the little back pack that she made for you. I bet she really loved that idea, that's so sweet. Have fun in Mexico!
