Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too. All I ask is that you link back to A Mommy’s Adventures so that everyone can see all the other great projects that everyone shares too! The linky will be open all week.
I added a stART tab in my navigation bar to make it easier to search for past stART projects. Be sure to check it out!! All the books that we have read and did a stART project for are listed in alphabetical order.
This week in celebration of Earth Day we read Fancy Nancy: Every Day Is Earth Day, by Jane O’Connor. This is a cute book that gives wonderful examples of things that children and their families can do to help protect the environment. However, when Nancy goes a little overboard she also learns how she can respect her family while still taking care of the earth. When I was little I was always trying to find ways to “Save the Earth” in fact I even belong to the “Save the Earth Club in middle school. So this is something that I am happy to share with Emily. The ideas in this book are fun and I know Emily is excited to try some of them out.
We decided to make some Earth Cookies for Earth Day after reading this book. We painted our sweet canvas with some green and blue homemade edible water color paint.
I mixed the dough for the sugar cookies and let it chill in the refrigerator while the girls were actually napping at the same time. When Emily woke up we rolled half of it out and she cut them into circles. She decided she wanted to make large and small earths.
After they were baked and cooled for a bit Emily painted the cookies with green and blue watercolor paints (just plain old water and food coloring).
Emily’s Earth Cookies
Happy Earth Day!!!
**I am testing out the thumbnail version from Linky Tools for this weeks stART. If you have any trouble with it please let me know. I would love your feedback on using this compared to the basic list.
I was looking for a decent Earth Day book! Should have known Fancy Nancy wouldn't let us down. Cute cookies! I love her look of total concentration. :) (I love the thumbnail linkies, btw.)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun looking cookies! The new linky thing worked fine, but it is a bit more work - and I didn't have an image from my post today that fitted well, so I've just used my regular image which is fine, but doesn't tell people anything more about what's in the post.
ReplyDeleteYummy! What a great activity to go with the book! Cute book - my boys probably wouldn't be into this but when my baby girl gets older I will have to keep it in mind for next years Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteGreat Earth Day book and activity. : )
ReplyDeleteI love your cookies. We made earth cupcakes this week. We read this book too; Fancy Nancy is a favorite in our house. Happy Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteLove your Earth cookies! They look great and who wouldn't love painting cookies!
ReplyDeleteI have to look for this Fancy Nancy book - generally speaking daughter not a fan of this series, but maybe she will warm up to it. Those cookies look yummy. Not exactly thrilled about thumbnails - I think 20 character description for thumbnails is too short.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the the thumbnails, but I agree with Natalie, the short caption was frustrating.
ReplyDeleteLove your Earth Day cookies! We did a Fancy Nancy Earth Day project, yesterday - you'll have to check it out, too :)

I love this new idea! It's so cool.
ReplyDeleteI like the thumbnail pictures, but the description is too short, can you make it longer?
That's a great idea using them as paints- turned out great! I love the thumbnail linky :)
ReplyDelete"Painting" cookies is such a novel idea. My children would love doing this.
ReplyDeleteEmily did such a great job with her plant and animal sorting activity. I am impressed with her cutting skills.
I'm a little bit late to the party this time but we also read an earth friendly book. Your cookies look yummy!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! The cookies look great
ReplyDeleteLike the cookies! We're just getting started on the Fancy Nancy books :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ticia, I like the picture linky, but the description is way to short!
Thanks as always for hosting stART!
I am sorry to be late with my post- it's been a bit crazy fun around here...
ReplyDeleteOh, and since I am a "picture" kinda person, I ADORE this new linky!
