Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too! The linky will be open all week.
This week we read The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and THE BIG HUNGRY BEAR, by Don and Audrey Wood. This is one of the books that Emily requests each and every time that we go to the library. It is a cute story about a little mouse that picks a Red Ripe Strawberry and then tries all different ways of keeping it from the Big Hungry Bear, that happens to LOVE freshly picked red ripe strawberries. Since Emily enjoys this book so much and it is read very often I thought it would be the perfect book for our stART project this week!
Emily collaged a lovely Red Ripe Strawberry out of magazine cutouts.
First, Emily and I went through a couple of magazines to find red and green pictures. I started doing the cutting for her, however when I had to stop in the middle of this to change Juliette, I looked up and saw that Emily had taken over. This did not last for that long, but I was glad that she gave it a try.
I drew a strawberry shape on a piece of red construction paper and then gave Emily, scissors, glue and the magazine cuttings to collage with. I was excited to see her cutting the pieces down to fit on just so!!
Next, I drew the leaves of the strawberry on a piece of green construction paper and had her collage that too.
Finally, I cut out both pieces and Emily glued them together.
Emily’s Red Ripe Strawberry!!
I'm not sure I would have thought to use magazines for a berry collage - neat idea!
ReplyDeleteYum, that looks good enough to eat. And seedless, too! We've never read the book but it will go on the list!
ReplyDeleteLol, you won't believe this but we did next week's stART project today and it was a strawberry to go along with this same book! (We did this weeks stART a couple days ago). But my daughter's strawberry was a little more simple. I think her final product came out great and I bet she had lots of fun cutting up the magazines.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, aounds like a great book as well! Emily did a super job!
ReplyDeleteAs always, Emily did a terrific job with glue and scissors. This strawberry looks scrumptious. Anna never did get into this book even though the rest of us like it a lot.
ReplyDeletewe LOVE this book :) great craft
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun idea- I needed something else for our red crafts.... I might try something similar to this :)
ReplyDeleteBrianna LOVES this book!
ReplyDeleteI love Emily's strawberry and how focused she looks as she works on her artwork! This sounds like a good book - I'm going to look for it!
ReplyDeleteGreat collage! I can't wait to try collaging with my little one!
ReplyDeleteoo that strawberry is so cute!! I love those ripped paged crafts :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite book of all time! What a great project.
ReplyDeleteAbby was sick, so we didn't do a stART project this week.
I love that book series. Have you read Bear Snores ON?
ReplyDeleteEmily's collage strawberry is very cute.
ReplyDeleteI really like your cereal rainbow - that would be a hit in our house (sorting, gluing and snacking, that would have to be winning combination).
This is really nice and it's a good bonding moment with your kid. If I were a mom I would probably do this type of activity with my kid and I'll keep them all so when they grow up it will serve a a good memorabilia of your bonding moments.
ReplyDeleteThat strawberry looks like it could be in a Children's Book- perhaps Miss Em is on her way to becoming a Children's Book Illustrator...
ReplyDeleteSorry we were late in linking ours.
