Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our story and art project and maybe even share your own too! The linky will be open all week.
This week we read Just a Snowy Day, by Mercer Mayer. He is one of my favorite Authors and Illustrators! I think that Little Critter is just too cute and can’t wait to share all of these fun stories with Emily and Juliette. Just a Snowy Day is a great interactive books with touch and feel pages and pull tabs. You can follow Little Critter through is day in the snow from getting dressed to play in the snow to going to bed under a nice cozy blanket thinking about the fun he will have in the snow again in the morning.
Since it has been snowy here Emily loved reading this book and talking about all the things that we have been doing in the snow. She is also OBSESSED with mittens recently. Last year my Mom knitted her a really cute pair of mittens and she has been wearing them a lot recently. This inspired this quick and easy mitten craft to go along with our book this week!
Emily’s Contact Paper and Tissue Mittens
I cut a strip of contact paper and taped it to the table, sticky side facing up. Emily put the cut up tissue paper pieces all over the contact paper. She had fun putting them flat and balling them up too.
I cut the paper in half and stuck the two sticky sides together. Then I traced Emily’s hand in a mitten shape on the contact paper. Emily likes to help by drawing the line at the bottom of any hand tracing!
Finally, I cut out the mittens and taped string to the bottoms of them. I hung them on the sliding glass door. You can see my snowflake window decals through them!!
Check out Mercer Mayer's Little Critter website for lots of fun activities!!
Very cute! Anna loved reading this book in the bookstore and touching the tabs. We are big fans of Little Critter here.
ReplyDeleteThe mittens came out so cute! Mercer Mayer is always a fav. My daughter loves lift the flap and touch & feel. She would probably love that book!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cute idea! I think I will use this idea next week for our snow theme.
ReplyDeleteLittle Critter is a real favorite here, too. The mittens are wonderful. I was thinking how nice they looked with the snowflake shapes, and how well that connected them to the snowy day theme, and then I read the last sentence about the decals :)LOL
ReplyDeleteCute idea! We love Little Critter books.
ReplyDeleteI love Little Critter books, and those are such cute mittens she made.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! We're in the midst of a snow week (well, LEARNING about snow, not actually experiencing it) and I think we'll have to make these tomorrow. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun book! I gave you the Lemonade Stand Award over at my blog. I know you have already received it once, but I really love your blog! :)
