A Story + Art = A Great stART!
Welcome to stART! I hope that you will enjoy our book and art project and maybe even share your own too! For an explanation of stART click here.
This week we read Five Green and Speckled Frogs, by Priscilla Burris. This is a cute book based on the song. The repetitive text makes it easy for Emily to read, or sing along.
Since Emily has been requesting this book so often I knew it had to be used for our stART project this week! I wanted another project that could help her tell the story and this is what I came up with. I printed out a frog clipart and then all I needed was 6 popsicle sticks, a paper towel tube and supplies to decorate the frogs.
Emily decorated the frogs with wiggly eyes and sequins
Emily colored the paper towel tube with brown marker and glued on some sequins.
I taped popsicle sticks to the frogs and made 5 slits in the paper towel tube. I also made a slit in the back and added a popsicle stick to help it stand up on its own.

We've never read this book, but I know Juliet would love it. I love the craft project, too! Great way to reuse a paper towel tube!
Very cute frogs - I'm going to have to do a search for the song - it's one we haven't heard.
Also - I goofed my link, are you able to correct it from your end? Sorry :(
This is so cute!
Super cute! We'll have to look for that book because my kids love the song.
Love the idea of using a paper towel tube and the slits.
Love this craft! Very Cute! Thanks for including the printable. I will definately be doing this with my son.
We haven't read the book, but Anna likes to listen to Raffi's songs, and our CD has this one. Your project turned out super cute - how fun to execute something so big.
I've never heard of that book. It sounds cute and what a fun project too!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! Great project!!! I have got to find that book!!
very cute project!!!
I am so going to use this. My little girl loves to revisit books using story props.
Very adorable, all sitting on a log!
Oh that is so cute. Filing this idea away because it looks like a lot of fun!
Hi Michelle
I really liked how you came up with the log for the frogs and the fact that Emily's craft can be used every time you tell the story. Such a creative and fun idea.
Emily's open ended art project is beautiful. I think it is such a great idea to expose children to different artisits and their styles.
We have not used Microsoft Paint yet, but after seeing your post about this, I am very keen to check it out.
Great, great, great! You always have such great ideas!
oh wow that's soo cute! I would love to try this out :)
aaagh! :-) I keep meaning to link up with stART - it's just such a fab idea, but every week Thursday comes and goes and before I know it, I've missed it... still, I'm an optimist, so I know I WILL be taking part soon ;-)
This is one of our favorite songs. Cute craft idea! I'll have to print out those frogs and let my boys decorate them.
This is fantastic. Thanks for sharing it with us.
