This week we read I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat!, by Lucille Colandro. This is a fun repetitive Halloween version of I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, which is one of Emily's favorite books!
I found this great project idea and new that I had to try it this week with Emily. All I needed was a Ziploc sandwich bag, printout of "The Old Lady" and some crayons.

Emily glued the Old Lady's head to the top of the bag and the feet to the bottom.
The McLinky says it is closed?

I'll check back later to see if it is fixed.
Love your project. It is a super way to retell the story.
We LOVE this book. We actually have a felt board set that we use when we read the book, and my kids think it is hysterical. Cute project.
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice project. I am still warming up to "There Was an Old Lady" series - I looked at it in the library and didn't like it much. Emily is really good at coloring.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, your McLinky is closed - maybe you could fix it :)
We saw this book in the store and thought it was funny! Great project to go with it. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute idea :) It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteWe love to read the Thanksgiving version of this book - I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie - we might have to try out the Ziploc idea later on.
ReplyDeleteOur project this week is at www.almostunschoolers.blogspot.com/2009/10/homemade-face-paint-for-start.html
adorable idea. We are going to have to use this activity soon with on of the "old lady swallowed" books.
ReplyDeleteI love "An Old Lady". I have 2 versions of the original as well as the Thanksgiving version. I also have some stacking cards to go with the original. Thanks for the fun activity, I really enjoy storytelling props.
ReplyDeleteI love projects that have the child/student following along/interacting with the story. There are so many "There Was An Old Lady..." that you will be able to easily adapted this project to go along with all of them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I would never have thought of doing something like this. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI really like the ziplock bag idea for this. So cute and fun. We finally joined you with the stART project for the first time today. We can't wait to jump on board with you every week. Thank you for hosting such a creative and enjoyable craft activity.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this version of this story. It would be so fun! Thanks for sharing it, and her finished project turned out great too:-)!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. We have the "Swallowed a Fly" version somewhere--I think Juliet will love placing the objects in the bag!
ReplyDeleteI love activities that allow children to participate in a retelling of a book. I know my girls will enjoy this.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a fun "Old Lady" craft. Might have to try it sometime. We focused on ghosts this week! BOO!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!
ReplyDeleteWe've been reading this book over and over and over this week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make the interactive one, that Christi's of the felt board. I forgot to link up this week, we only had a nursery rhyme to of linked, but oh well. There's always another week, hopefully next week won't be so crazy......
We love this book and we are linking back to you on Monday's blog post. Thanks!
