Emily's Traffic Light
We were reading Little People Cars, Trucks, Planes, and Trains and You Can Drive an Automobile (Golden Drive Away Book), by Carolyn Bracken this morning and I decided this would be a fun project to go along with them. I cut out 3 sections of an egg carton and gave Emily red, yellow and green paint. We talked about where the colors where on a traffic light and what they meant before she painted each section.
Painting Green for Go!
Yellow, for Get ready to stop.
Red, for Stop!
When Emily was all finished painting I made a slit in the bottom of the egg carton and another slit in the bottom of a small plastic cup. Then I slid a Popsicle stick in each slit and secured it with some tape in the egg carton.
Later on today we will be going outside to play Red Light, Green Light. Emily loves running around when I say green light and freezing in place when I say red light.
**This is our version of the game since we only have 1 player, for now :0)

I totally forgot about this game! I can't wait to try it...
B has been loving this poem lately:
Red says Stop
Green says Go
Yellow says WHOA, let's go slow!
Oh I like this activity. Will definitely have to try it soon. :)
I love that!
So cute! What a great idea. Trying to teach my youngest colors...this would be a fun way to learn.
Very cute idea!!
That is a terrific idea. I am going to use this in my preschool class. Thanks for sharing.
She is just the cutest with her projects. That is really a great idea. Little D loves to talk about traffic lights too.
What a great idea! This would be awesome for when my pre-k class talks about Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the traffic light. Very cool! :)
I really loved your project - so creative and just enough participation from Emily. My husband made a wooden light for Anna's train track which even turns from red to green. She likes it a lot, but now I am thinking of making the one like yours and maybe adding some flaps, so she can change colors. Thanks for sharing!
