If You Give A Moose A Muffin Counting
Today we read If You Give a Moose a Muffin, by Laura Joffe Numeroff and since we made muffins yesterday I decided to do this counting activity with Emily today. I got the printable worksheets from this great website and Emily helped me put it together.
Emily colored half of the muffins. She did a great job staying in the lines, I was so proud of her!
Emily wanted to cut her muffins out so I cut them into strips and she cut down the middle. These strips were wider than she is used to and she did a great job with it. It looks like we can move on to more difficult cutting practice!
Finally we get to play the game. Emily had to put the correct number of muffins on the plate. We worked together to do this and I think it will be great practice for counting, number recognition and 1 to 1 correspondence. When she was finished putting the correct number of muffins on the plate she enjoyed feeding the muffins to the little moose on the corner of the paper.
**We only worked with the numbers 1-5 although the printouts went up to 20. Emily also got tired of it by the time we got to the last one.**
Looks like a great activity. We are going to use this when we read that book. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThat it a great game. Danielle would love that.
ReplyDeleteGreat book too.
What a great idea! I love any activity connected to a book.
ReplyDeleteWe have that same printable. We use it often, and the funny thing is that we are currently studying Maine and the state animal is the moose so I planned on using it! We adore all of the Laura Numeroff books! Lately, we have been reading If you give a cat a cupcake on a daily basis!
ReplyDeleteWe love this book! I made a lapbook from this site not too long ago with If you give a Mouse a Cookie templates. My kids just love all of those books!
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of connecting books to an activity. Love this!
ReplyDelete"Moose Book" is one of Anna's favorites. This looks like a neat way to combine counting, book stretcher, crafts and fine motor skill activity all in one! Emily is really great with coloring. I just wish my daughter was a little more enthusiastic about worksheets - she doesn't like coloring at all.
